Young Pietro

“I was born in Milan from a family of engineers. I left home at 26, after a masters in engineering and a couple of years of work, to follow my dream in Africa. I first landed on the continent as a volunteer for the Tarangire Lion Project NGO. Since then I pursued my passion as a safari guide and have worked for the last 18 years guiding in some of the wildest, most beautiful and private corners of Africa.”

Safari Designer

“A safari is personal, in planning a safari the starting point is you and everything is built around you. To do so, I need to know what happens when you close your eyes and picture your safari, what happens when the scene that bursts out of your imagination unfolds; what do you see then?

A safari has no must, except one, opening ourselves to nature, and learn again to be nature.”

Wildlife Guide

"My goal when I guide you is to not to teach you how be in nature but to Be Nature. Every day I experience the joy of waking up to the sounds of the bush and the wonder of discovering a bit more about it.

I hold a desire to share my experiences with other people and to teach the language of the bush, a language which ties me closely to this continent, this profession and this lifestyle.”

Guide Trainer

“Training has been a natural progression and a way of giving back to a profession that has given me so much.

I have trained hundreds of guides and rangers. Nothing compares to it. Nothing compares to the joy of giving people the tools to excel.

As trainers, we cannot open doors but we can give keys and give the guides the capacity to use them.”

...as a fine art photographer, it is very difficult to find a guide who has the exact understanding of what I am truly looking for. Someone who can push the limits day after day to make sure I get that special shot I am constantly chasing without compromising safety and time. His guiding is second to none and so his kindness

We met Pietro on 2016 in our first visit to Africa. Pietro is an exceptional guide. He is a great connoisseur of the area, the animals and the culture. He can convey his passion and love for animals and has a great respect for his job. He is very generous to share his knowledge and always makes sure everybody is having a good time. Taking care of those small details that makes the whole experience unique and personal. This year we decided to repeat the experience with the whole family. Pietro never fails to deliver. As unpredictable as wildlife can be, Pietro will adapt to give you the experience of a lifetime.

I was lucky enough to visit Africa twice and have Pietro Luraschi as our guide on both occasions. Pietro is a marvellous guide and possesses a wealth of information about Africa in general, but specifically about all things concerning the local terrains, the park system, the wildlife, the flora and fauna, and the people living in and near the parks.

Our first experience focused on nature, the great park systems and the wildlife living in those ecological niches. Pietro could be a scientist for the knowledge he possesses and freely shares with the visitors he manages. We learned so much about the wildlife, things we won’t soon forget. He is also a bird enthusiast, constantly charting and sharing information about the bird life in the parks. It is almost impossible to list all his skills when it comes to his understanding of the nature which thankfully still abounds in Africa.

My second experience focused on nature but also included experiences with native African peoples and tribes. Pietro is able to coordinate intimate visits with local people, families and tribes in a positive, respectful manner. We joined a bush tribe for a few days and learned how they lived, foraged, interacted and survive in present day Tanzania. It was one of the most incredible experiences in my life. I would never have known otherwise how to access the things Pietro included in our trip, not ever. That is why he is so special as a guide and interpreter for all things Tanzania and Africa.

Whether it is an experience tracking chimpanzees, observing great apes, tracking a lion family, following vultures to a kill or carcass, examining a trail of fire ants, diving in a spring, sunrise picnic, supper at sunset, full days of exploring great northern and southern park systems, wonderful evenings of rest, camaraderie, sleeping under the stars and more. I would recommend Pietro as a guide to anyone who desires a very special African experience, not the banal tourist version of Africa, but the rich tapestry of a place which only comes from living in that world for such a long time.

Pietro is an Italian (fluent in English and local languages) but you could mistake him for a golden haired African, so in tune with the many places and ways there is he, you might be fooled. We were! He is a guide extraordinaire, truly! Thanks Pietro for teaching us all things Africana. You’re the best!
